Hand painted slate given to hearthsideDuring the May 2008 School of Instruction Weekend, the Civil War re-enactors from the 12th Georgia made a formal presentation to Friends of Hearthside Vice President John Scanlon of a beautifully painted slate featuring a picture of Hearthside. The slate was hand painted by one of the re-enactors in appreciation for the hospitality they have received from Friends of Hearthside. During the winter months, they held meetings at Hearthside and have used Chase Farm Park for their training camp, School of Instruction and re-enactments. The slate reads, "Home of the 12th Georgia." The slate is now in the foyer of the house and all that enter are greeted by the work of art.
