GRANT AWARDED FOR CONTINUED PLANNING OF DAIRY MUSEUM AT CHASE FARM HOUSEA $1,000 mini-grant has been awarded to Friends of Hearthside by Preserve Rhode Island/Citizens Bank Foundation for the development of a rendered site plan and architectural drawings for the adaptive reuse of the Chase Farm House as a dairy museum. The grant will be matched by funds provided by Friends of Hearthside in order to hire an architect to draw up the plan. The site plan will supplement the Feasibility Study for a Dairy Museum at the Chase Farm House completed in 2005 with a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Rhode Island Foundation, the RI Legislature, and Friends of Hearthside. Having final site drawings are necessary in order to plan for parking, circulation, and other developments of the space which were not covered in the initial feasibility study. This is essential for the proper grading around the farm house, especially since one of the actions called for in the feasibility study was the removal of a porch to install a handicap entrance and ramp. Friends of Hearthside received a Preserve Rhode Island/Citizens Bank Foundation Mini-Grant in 2002 to help fund engineering services required at Hearthside to determine drainage problems around the foundation. The purpose of the Preserve Rhode Island/Citizens Bank Foundation Mini-Grant Program is to help support historic preservation projects in Rhode Island that are small-scale but large-impact projects that may slip through the cracks of traditional funders. Grants range from $300-$1,000. |
